3 Ways Health & Safety Technology will help your Club

The Obbi Golf Health & Safety Survey 2022 recently revealed that only 13% of Clubs use a specialised software system for their Safety, Compliance and Training. Despite this statistic, two thirds of Clubs said they agreed that using Health & Safety software would save them time and money in the long run.

Why invest in Health & Safety software? Here are three reasons to help you make the shift from old school to innovative.

  1. Full oversight of your Club

Golf Club Managers wear many different hats and look after all departments, which can mean they are under a lot of time pressure. They are dependent on paper, spreadsheets, and unconnected systems in key departments across Operations, Greenkeeping, Hospitality and Sub-contractors. Departments work in silos for large parts with key information not readily available to the right people at the right time. This makes it understandably difficult to have full visibility of all risk assessments, audits, checks, training, and mandatory tasks.

Using a software solution that integrates all departments means you can see that everything is under control immediately. If it’s not under control, this will show as an alert and notify those who need to rectify the situation. Having full oversight of accidents and near misses lays out a clear pathway for improvement and developing strategies to make the Club safer.

  1. Staff are empowered

As a manager, most of the heavy weight lies on you. But with a specialised software solution your team can have their own specific log in and have their own clear oversight of tasks, training, audits and checks they need to carry out. They will also have access to their own training library, which is particularly useful for refresher courses or for staff who may feel a bit embarrassed to say they forgot how to do something or need retrained. Everything is readily available and accessible from any smart device. Let your staff take control of their day – put the obligation back on them and focus your time on other important tasks.

  1. You save money

Whilst specialised Health & Safety software systems do come at a cost, that cost is lower in comparison to the following:

  • Constantly rehiring staff. According to research by Oxford Economics and Unum, the average cost of turnover per employee (earning £25,000 a year or more) is £30,614. Allow your team to feel empowered, correctly inducted, adequately trained, and comfortable in knowing what they must do for their job. Happy staff = staff retention.
  • Reduce your premiums. Claims are going to happen regardless, but if you are proactively using a system to reduce risk, identify near misses and hazards and have a robust reporting system for this, you can reduce your premiums and accident rate.
  • Reduce regulatory fines and penalties. Health and Safety Software can alert you about expiring mandatory documents like certificates, training, and policies. No nasty surprise visits from HSE, you can show that you are fully covered at the touch of a button.
